Celebrating Detroit's Future: Honored at the 9th Annual SWAG Awards

I am truly humbled to have been recognized at the Michigan Chronicle's 9th Annual SWAG (Students Wired for Achievement and Greatness) Awards.

The annual celebration, presented in partnership with Huntington Bank, recognizes Detroit's graduating seniors, outstanding educators, and community leaders who are making a difference in the lives of young people. This year's event awarded $100,000 in scholarships to deserving students while celebrating the educators who continue to inspire and invest in the next generation.

Being recognized for my work as Director of Grand Valley State University's TRIO Upward Bound Detroit program is a reminder of why I remain committed to education, mentorship, and creating opportunities for young people.

For me, the work has always been about more than a title or recognition. It is about showing up, opening doors, building relationships, and helping students recognize the greatness within themselves. I believe every young person deserves access to opportunities, someone who believes in them, and the support to pursue their dreams.

Congratulations to all the SWAG scholarship recipients, fellow educator honorees, and everyone who continues to invest in Detroit's future.

Thank you to the Michigan Chronicle and Huntington Bank for celebrating the power of education and the people committed to making a difference.

Be Great. Be Intentional. Make Your Moment Matter.
